Attracting a royal to Tauranga

Prince Harry is in New Zealand for his first ever week-long tour of the country, but Tauranga has been left off the stop list.

Harry arrived in Wellington yesterday where he was greeted on the tarmac by Prime Minister John Key and his wife Bronagh, and Wellington mayor Celia Wade-Brown and her husband Alistair Nicholson.

After an eventful time meeting fans and well-wishers in Australia the fifth-in-line to the throne is ready for an action-packed New Zealand adventure, reported Stuff.

After he touched down in Wellington, Harry took a drive around Evans Bay, Oriental Bay and went onto Government House for an official welcome.

He then made his way to the National War Memorial before catching the Hurricanes take on the Sharks at Westpac Stadium.

Sadly, the prince will not be stopping off in Tauranga as part of his NZ tour.

SunLive asked people in the community what Tauranga had to offer that could attract Prince Harry to the region.

Many people though the royal would enjoy a walk up the Mount or a visit to the beach.

Watch the video above to see what they had to say.

Nice, sunny, beach and a wee hill to wander around ... guess bit lacking in entertainment factor, perhaps if there was a "Massive" rugby stadium and a decent rugby game then next time, when he is back in 20 or maybe 30 years or something he could show up for 1-2 hours to watch a really good game of Pyes Pa v Merivale under 8 year olds?, Sounds like a stunning plan, how could he refuse that kind of world new type game, media catching, live telecast match ...

That was hilariously lacking in actual suggestions. Aside from the Mount itself and the suggestion to see remote islands, there was nothing in this video which cannot be found in 95 percent of the country's coastal towns.

As much as I like to live here there is nothing here for him or anyone else who visits. Ask any cruise line that comes in to TGA where do their passengers go???

Why? Why? Why?

I'm a Monarchist at heart, but I just don't get it. Why do people Fawn over people in the public eye? So what, that they are talented or possibly untalented, they are no "better" than anyone else. Enough of the Obsequious kowtowing, enough of the formal recognition through knighthoods etc. because they are well known. We should praise and reward the unsung heroes and not those that get paid HANDSOMELY for their, all too often, brief endeavors. If there is something that can be gained by a "royal" visit, then I am blissfully ignorant of it and long may it continue. Obviously in the same context as a successful sporting activity, but we are willing to throw millions of dollars at a feel good MOMENT in time.

What about nose rubbing then?

The comments ain't at all positive and it is not hard to figure out why. Looks like 'By How about this view' has hit the nail on the head and yes it is all really a waste of time and money - get over it and move on. Oh I suppose he could have popped by and drooled over the Hairy Mcclary figurines so a admired by his stepmother but sorry Hal mate they are not in place yet 3years down the track.
