Te Puke Highway crash causes traffic delays

Traffic delays are being reported on Te Puke Highway following a two-vehicle crash.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the highway, near Collins Lane at 2.30pm.

Two people have received moderate injuries, police said.

The road was blocked while emergency services were in attendance.

Police said the road cleared at 3.40pm.

An eyewitness at the scene reported that an SUV was upside down, with “a lot of personnel on-site”.

The eyewitness said: “It doesn’t look too good.”

The witness said there were traffic delays while emergency services worked the scene.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Ryan Geen said initial reports were that someone was trapped, but upon arrival, everyone was out of the vehicles.

He said one car was off the road and one was upside down.

“We sent out crews from Te Puke and the Mount. Police and ambulance arrived.”

Hato Hone St John said three ambulances, one rapid response unit and one operations manager attended the crash.

“Three patients were assessed in total. Two of the patients, both in moderate condition, are being transported to Tauranga Hospital.

“The third patient, in minor condition, was treated at the scene.”
