Kart racing revs into Tauranga

This weekend some streets in downtown Tauranga are to be closed as kart racing comes to the CBD for a fun-filled day of speed and excitement.

It is the Farmer Auto Village Tauranga Street Race with organisers expecting a large turnout for racing on Sunday.

'We are hoping for around about 8000 spectators this year,” says race convenor Steve Glover.

There are 126 entrants in the weekend competition that includes qualifying on Saturday from midday for the full race day on Sunday, from 8.30am until 5pm.

SunLive is reporting race results as they occur on Sunday and will have full coverage of the event this weekend.

The track runs along Cameron Road, down Elizabeth Street, along Glasgow Street and then up 3rd Avenue west back to Cameron Road.

Tickets are on sale at Cameron Road between Elizabeth Street and 1st Avenue on the day.
