A man has “life-altering” injuries after an alleged assault by gatecrashers in Mount Maunganui.

Police appealed for information today after a man was seriously hurt at an Oceanbeach Rd property early on Sunday.

Detective Sergeant Aaron Williams said the victim remained stable in hospital but had injuries “believed to be life-altering”.

“We believe those responsible were part of a group of people who arrived uninvited to a private gathering at the address,” Williams said.

“This was a senseless and cowardly attack which has left a person with significant injuries and has had a considerable impact on those close to him.

Williams said police wanted to speak to anybody who was in the Oceanbeach Rd area late on Saturday, October 31, and into the early hours of November 1.

“This includes anybody with information regarding the incident itself, or any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to assist police.

“We believe there are people within our community who know exactly what occurred, and it is imperative that we speak to them as part of our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the 105 service, either over the phone or online at 105.police.govt.nz and reference file number 261101/5767.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
