No change sees a ‘stay’ until March

Reserve Bank Governor Alan Bollard's decision not to change the official cash rate in New Zealand last week is keeping investors guessing.

It is unclear exactly when the rate will change again, although the most commonly thought date is in March 2011.

This comes after earlier this year it was thought that the rate would go on the increase steadily in the latter part of 2010.

However, this is not occurring as the New Zealand economy has not bounced back from recession as swiftly as it was believed it would.

The export-led recovery programme of the National Government is working with New Zealand exporters for the most part showing good annual reports. However, the benefits of their recovery are taking longer than expected to be passed on to the rest of the economy.
