A community parade at noon today in Mount Maunganui celebrates the 30th anniversary of Falun Dafa Day.
Tauranga City Council advises that there will be a rolling one-lane road closure with the roads reopening once the parade has passed through.
The parade will feature a marching band, the Falun Dafa Waist Drummers and a dancing team.
"With humanity currently facing many difficulties we bring joy, upliftment and a sense of renewal to our community through our performances," says Falun Dafa Association of NZ spokesperson Judy Shakespear in a letter placed in local Mount Maunganui resident's letterboxes.
Falun Dafa is a qigong practice introduced in 1992 that relates to the health of the mind and body.
The parade will start on Grace Ave from the Mount Drury Reserve. It will then proceed along Marine Parade, Adams Ave and Maunganui Road. Traffic controllers will be located at Leinster Ave, Commons Ave, Grace Ave, Pacific Ave, May Street, Prince Ave, Shadelands Lane and Steeple Lane throughout the parade.
The parade will end at Te Papa o Nga Manu Porotakataka in Mount Mainstreet, following which there will be a variety of performances, demonstrations and storytelling. The 30th anniversary activities will conclude at 2pm.
