6.30pm State Highway 29A has reopened following a serious crash.
Police were alerted to a crash between a ute and a tractor on SH29A between Bay Park and Maungatapu Causeway around 4.10pm.
"It has occurred opposite the Matapihi Peninsula heading towards Maungatapu," says a Tauranga Transport Operations spokesperson.
One person has been transported to hospital in a critical condition.
5.26pm: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash involving a tractor and a car on SH 29A, near the Maungatapu Road on-ramp.
Police were alerted to the crash around 4.10pm.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays.
"Pass the scene with care and be prepared for delays in both directions, as traffic slows down past the incident scene," says a NZTA spokesperson.
Earlier, 4.33pm: There has been a vehicle crash on State Highway 29A near Bay Park.
Waka Kotahi NZTA say that due to the crash, westbound lanes after Truman Lane are blocked.
Tauranga Transport Operations Centre says that the crash is on SH29A from Bay Park towards the Maungatapu causeway.
"Left lane is closed due to serious crash," says a Tauranga Transport Operations spokesperson.
Police, fire and ambulance services are reported to be at the scene.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays.

about time these tractors were barred from main roads, if they cant maintain the speed limit. would be so bad if they pulled off the road and let traffic past

Why would any tractor operator decide to drive an old tractor unstable at max speed 60-70k on SH29 in 100km rush hour traffic with NZ drivers renown for being impatient tailgating risk takers
