One dead following SH2 crash

One person has died following a motor vehicle crash on State Highway 2 last night.

Another person involved in the crash is in moderate condition at Tauranga Hospital.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash which occurred near Minden, north of Tauranga, at around 8.45pm.

'A driver from one of the vehicles died at the scene,” says a police statement.

Police state a person from the second vehicle involved in the incident has sustained serious injuries however, St John has confirmed that the status of the patient has now been changed to moderate.

"St John treated and transported one patient in a moderate condition to Tauranga Hospital," reads a statement.

SH2 was closed between Snodgrass Road and Te Puna Road after the collision. However, Waka Kotahi NZTA confirms the road has been cleared overnight and is now reopen.

The incident was the second serious crash along SH2 yesterday. A separate incident at around 2.30pm yesterday saw a car crash into a tree. Two people were taken to hospital in a serious condition after the incident near Clarke Road.

Come on SunLive, how about an article that takes aim at this government who has back pedalled for 5 years on upgrading these roads ? Whats the cost to NZ lives and economy. This road upgrade was budgeted before they got in and been cancelled. Come on !

unless its due to a medical event or the car one is driving blows up deaths and or accidents shouldnt happen on our roads no matter what condition the roads are in too many out there driving and not paying attention to their speed nor whats happening around them...........
