One seriously injured in Karangahake Gorge crash

UPDATED 8.20am: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 2 in Karangahake Gorge this morning.

Police were notified of the two vehicle crash on SH2 around 7.45am, says a police spokesperson.

One person has been seriously injured and a helicopter is responding, they say.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising SH2 has been closed just north of Rahu Road to assist with vehicle recovery.

Delay your journey or follow the directions of emergency services, says NZTA.

An alternate route is SH26/25 and 25A via Kopu, Hikuai and Whangamata.

The road will be closed for approximately an hour, says the police spokesperson.

EARLIER: A statement from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says the crash is just north of Rahu Road.

NZTA says to expect delays in the area and to follow the directions of emergency services.
