One person has suffered serious injuries after a crash on State Highway 2 near Waimana.

The vehicle collision took place at the intersection of Waimana Road and SH2 East.

Police confirm they responded to reports of a crash shortly before 11.40am and that two people have been taken to hospital.

'One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition,” says a police statement.

'Another with moderate injuries.”

Waka Kotahi NZTA is warning that delays in the area are possible.

'A serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area,” reads a Waka Kotahi statement.

'Delays are possible. An update will be provided as soon as more information is available.”

Motorists are advised to follow the directions of emergency services on the scene.
