Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to expect delays or consider alternative routes along a stretch of State Highway 2 today.
Urgent road surface repairs will take place between between Barrett Road and Te Karaka Drive, north of Te Puna between 12noon and 2pm.
The road will be down to one lane with Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place.
This work needs to be undertaken urgently to ensure the safety of all road users over the long weekend and to avoid further damage in case of unfavourable weather.
This work, combined with the high volumes of holiday traffic expected on State Highway 2 this afternoon for the long ANZAC Day weekend, is expected to cause delays.
Where possible, motorists are encouraged to delay their travel or consider an alternate route.

All the councils in the area seem to want to severely restrict the flow of the Kiwifruit Harvest one way or another. Not realising that without the Kiwifruit Industry the region would look something like Westport.

How long has the road surface in that area been C __ P !! Months, and suddenly they need to fix it on the start of a long weekend!!! WHO are these so called "roading clowns"???
