One person has died following a crash in the Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 30, in Rotoiti, at 4.10pm on Monday.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that one person has died.

"The crash, involving a car and a truck, occurred near the Hinehopu Golf Club.

"The driver of the car died at the scene.

"The truck driver was not injured."

The road was closed for several hours to allow the serious crash unit to investigate the scene.

The road was opened just after 8.30pm.
