Child killed in BOP crash named

Police have released the name of the child killed in the Bay of Plenty crash.

Five-year-old Ashton Maharaj was killed in a crash on State Highway 38 in Rerewhakaaitu, south of Rotorua.

The Manurewa boy was in a vehicle that rolled on the highway around 10pm on Friday.

A police spokesperson says four other people suffered a range of injuries and were taken to hospital.

"Police extend their sympathies to Ashton's family and loved ones."

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
