More resurfacing works planned for SH29

The works are scheduled to start on February 14.

Motorists who use State Highway 29 are being warned to be prepared for more road works next week.

Waka Kotahi Transport Agency says resurfacing works will be taking place on SH29, between Poripori Road and McLaren Falls Road, starting on Sunday, February 14.

Work will be undertaken between 7am – 7pm from Sunday, February 14, until Thursday, February 18, in the eastbound direction (heading towards Tauranga), says a spokesperson for the roading agency.

"The passing lane will be closed for the entirety of the work, including overnight. A lane will remain open in both directions at all times. A temporary speed limit of 50km/h applies.

"These works are part of the Waka Kotahi spring/summer road maintenance programme, which will see repairs and reseals on state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the state highway network.

"Please take extra care, reduce your speed and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage."

Road reconstruction works adjacent to the Kaimai Mamaku Summit Rest Area on SH29 will also get underway from Monday, February 15, and are expected to be completed by Sunday, February 21, weather dependent.

During the works, one lane will remain open in each direction, with a temporary speed limit in place.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed. Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz) for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.

"Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience."
