Resealing works on State Highway 2 are continuing this week between Old Tauranga Road and Athenree Road, north of Katikati.

Nightworks will continue between 7pm - 7am until Friday, January 29, and will include sweeping and road marking of the various sites, says a spokesperson from the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Works will also start on Tuesday February 2 on two resurfacing sites between Youngson Road and Barrett Road, near Ōmokoroa.

"Due to the length of the sites, we anticipate that these works may cause significant delays, and advise that an alternative route via Youngson Road and Barrett Road is available for light vehicles to avoid these chipseal sites.

"Next week's works will conclude the summer maintenance sealing programme for this section of SH2, with work planned to be completed by Friday, February 5.

"Waka Kotahi acknowledges recent delays during chipsealing works were significantly higher than anticipated and thanks motorists for their patience as we near the end of maintenance works along this SH2 corridor."

These works are part of the Waka Kotahi spring/summer road maintenance programme, which will see repairs and reseals on state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the state highway network.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.
