Road open following SH29A crash

UPDATE 9:30AM: State Highway 29A at Poike has re-opened following the serious crash that occurred around 6:40am this morning.

The circumstances of the crash are now under investigation, says a police spokesperson. 

"Police thank motorists for their patience while the road was closed." 

UPDATE 7.42AM: Emergency services are attending a serious crash in Poike, Tauranga.

Police received a report of the two-vehicle crash on SH 29A around 6:40am.

Three people are reported to have sustained moderate to serious injuries, says a police spokesperson.

"The Serious Crash Unit are in attendance.

"Diversions are in place at Poike Road and Welcome Bay Road and motorists are asked to avoid the area."

Police are also in attendance following a report of a crash on SH 35 near Omaio.

"There are no reports of serious injuries and the road is now clear."

EARLIER:

State HIghway 29a, between the Welcome Bay and Poike roundabouts, is blocked following a serious crash.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the road is completely blocked.

"It is near the Poike roundabout. One car is off the road and another is blocked one lane.

"People should expect delays."

Another SunLive reader says three cars involved and traffic is at a complete standstill.

"Police and ambulance in attendance and another ambulance has just arrived."

Diversions are being put in place and people are advised to follow the directions of emergency services.

Diversions are as follows: Northbound traffic turn right onto Poike Rd, left onto Ohauiti Rd, continue onto SH29a. Southbound in reverse.
