One person is in police custody following a police chase though Tauranga.

A pursuit began on Pyes Pa Road at 1.40pm.

A number of people reported seeing the pursuit go through the Oropi and Greerton areas.

A police spokesperson says the vehicle appears to have been abandoned in the Tyrone Street area of Greerton around 1:50pm.

'One person has been taken into custody but it's a bit too soon to confirm charges if any.”
