Eight people are dead following what is being described as a horror weekend on New Zealand roads.
Two people have died following a crash on Great South Road in Huntly on Sunday.
The crash was reported to police just after 7.20pm.
At the time of the crash, police reported one person had died and another had been seriously injured.
Police have confirmed this morning that the second person has since died.
'Police enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the crash,” says a police spokesperson.
A few hours earlier, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Waihi.
The crash occurred on Landlyst Road at about 3pm.
Enquiries into the crash are continuing.
Two people were killed on Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in Macraes, north of Dunedin.
A police spokesperson said the single-vehicle crash in Macraes Back Rd in the Waitaki district, inland from Palmerston, was reported just before midnight.
Two others suffered serious injuries and were transported to Dunedin Hospital.
Earlier on Saturday, one person was killed in a single vehicle crash on Boundary Road, Clover Park near Manukau in Auckland, at about 6.30pm.
On Saturday morning in Northland at about 3am, a woman was killed and two others injured in another single-vehicle crash, on Pukepoto Road in Kaitaia.
Also on Saturday morning, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle at 1.27am on the Shenandoah Highway, near Murchison in Tasman.
The crash happened on State Highway 65 between Maruia Saddle Road and Pea Soup Road.

The standard of driving is a disgrace. I said months ago that Covid will be far less of a danger that being on the road with all the law breaking Kiwi drivers. The government is quite happy to see hundreds die on the road each year. They even redirect Police resources away from the roads to pester people for not wearing a mask.

I was going 97km on a 100km speed limit road this morning and no less than 10 vehicles passed me all well exceeding 110km. Less than 10 minutes ago a police car has travelled at at least 150km in a 60km zone - is it worth risking peoples lives while trying to get to an incident? I am tailgated many times daily. See speeding, tailgating, running red lights, badly executed overtaking, no indicating and distracted drivers, texting, hands on phone chatting, and eating cereal (yes with two hands) and pies everyday taking kids to school. We need better ongoing education and quality roads, lower speed limits and more speed camera, plus fines for illegal driving and every-time someone is the cause of any accident, as preventative measures. We should feel safe driving on our roads and loss of life should be a rarity, not what is happening daily.
