Police are investigating a crash where a ute crashed into a barrier near Bethlehem.

Officers were called to the crash on State Highway 2, east of Moffat Road, around 9.30pm.

A police spokesperson says the vehicle then left the scene, but there was debris on the road.

'Police attended and traffic management was called to assist while the scene was cleared.”

NZTA says one lane had to be closed to allow the debris to be removed from the road.

Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
