One person is in hospital with serious injuries following a collision in Welcome Bay.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on Welcome Bay Road at 7.27pm.
A police spokesperson says they received reports of a person being hit by a vehicle near the Welcome Bay shops.
A SunLive reader emailed in after the crash to say a Tauranga man "was run over in he Welcome Bay carpark.
The reader said the driver had fled the scene but police says there "is nothing to suggest the vehicle left the scene".
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

Are Police saying the driver fleeing the scene is more acceptable than the driver fleeing in the vehicle? If that's the case then this law needs to change. Did he ascertain injury?
