Cordons are in place following a crash in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Police received a report of a two car crash on Whakamarama Road, between Old Highway and Youngson Road, at around 11.15am.

"All emergency services were notified," says a police spokesperson.

"The initial information was that one person was status 2 (serious injuries) and one person was status 3 (moderate injuries).

"The road is blocked. Cordons are in place."
