Economic development agency Priority One has launched the Tauranga Business Case campaign in an effort to attract new businesses to the region.
Priority One chief executive Andrew Coker says it's no secret Tauranga is one of New Zealand's fastest growing areas and says the campaign targets strategic industry sectors.
'There is a solid case for establishing or expanding business operations to Tauranga,” says Andrew.
'Businesses looking to establish, relocate or expand into Tauranga will be presented with a compelling business proposition.”
He says competitive advantages can be measured directly against bottom line of a company:
•Profit: Competitively priced, plentiful industrial land, easy access to the Port of Tauranga and competitive labour costs translate into increased profit for business.
•People: A skilled and ready labour force, a well networked business community and local authorities that know the importance of attracting new business all help companies to succeed.
•Place: A year-round climate that favours outdoor pursuits, combined with a vibrant arts and cultural sector, some of the best schools in the country and a well-serviced health system makes Tauranga one of the most attractive places to live in New Zealand.
•Potential: Tauranga has planned well for forecast population and business growth, which means significant future opportunities for companies that are located here.
Business people visiting Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty over the summer holiday season will be the first to see the campaign.
'By seeing the breadth and depth of business and innovation in Tauranga, and understanding the supportive business environment and networks that exist here, business people will recognise what the region has to offer and should seriously consider doing business here,” says Andrew.

haven't we heard it all before? I remember some people saying that once Tauranga had an art gallery, businesses and the skilled executives they require would flock here!
Aha !

But now it is "when we get a museum people will flock here". I have said it before and will say it again. It is the job, the pay and the place that people are interested in. They couldn't give a damn whether there is an art gallery or museum here. I disagree with the headings -"Profit" land costs are too high and Tauranga still lags well behind in pay levels. "People" a skilled ready labour force ! Where ? Aren't these the people we are trying to attract to the Bay. "Potential " I have yet to see it. I do agree with "Place" however, but without well established jobs and levels of pay equalling the rest of the country I doubt it. Priority One is again hoping for miracles.
DRIFTING and DREAMING YET AGAIN

Priority One an outfit that would be hard pressed to point to one meaningful thing it has achieved over the years is mouthing off yet again.Engage the brain before opening the trap Priority One and stop wasting TCC Ratepayers moneys.
Its funding time.

It appears Priority one is an early starter for the funding year 2012/13.This is the only time we hear from them.If they really are interested in business's in the Bay they would surely be prepared to help the existing ones instead of impeding growth, particularly in the CBD.Free parking in the city centre is desperately needed to compete with other areas but they opposed every effort by the CBD stakeholders to instate it.They have never supported the business's in the CBD to encourage council to support the free cruise ship passenger shuttle. They have not opposed the removal of the Water front parking in the city centre in fact they have never opposed anything council has wanted even if there is lots of opposition from the stakeholders.Take a look at their reports on the council web site for the last four years on the supposed new hotel and conference centre and you will see each report is almost the same as the previous year. Its called job justification. These people are our servants but continue to support the anti business attitude of our council. Before starting a business in Tauranga you would be best advised to ask those that are here already for some honest answers.Just look at all the empty shops and ask around about others that are not renewing their leases when up for renewal.Just take a look out your front door Priority One and maybe spend some time and money on the existing problems and not look for more suckers.
