A second win on the bounce for Tauranga City has got them on the move up the Northern League Division One Football table.

The Nic Millichip coached side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Manurewa, in a performance Nic describes as ‘near perfect.'

In a must win game for City to ease relegation nerves, the boys in sky blue took the initiative from the kick off.

An array of chances fell to the attacking trio of Jay Silcock, Riley Bidois and Jaoco Reynoso but all were thwarted by the Manurewa keeper.

Then in the 40th minute City broke the deadlock. Joe Pamment won the ball on the left and played a neat ball inside to Silcock who left three Manurewa players for dead before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a deserved lead for the visitors, easing the tension as they headed into the halftime break.

City kept their foot on the throat as the match resumed, setting the flow of the game on a very different pitch to what they're used to.

The constant threat of Bidois, Silcock and Reynoso proved too much for the hosts in the 54th minute when the trio combined beautifully for Bidois to score at the back post.

Keeper Tom Pamment, who was kept relatively quiet throughout, made a couple of routine saves towards the end as the home side pushed for a goal.

Marshalled at the back by skipper Raymond How and experienced defender Nathan Farey Tauranga looked comfortable all over the park.

Midfield dynamos Jonny Routledge and the ever present Andrew Carter controlled the game. But it was the silky feet of Silcock that again caught the eye as his performances go from strength to strength in his breakthrough season.

The back-to-back wins for Tauranga City have earnt them a move up to eighth on the table, and a much-needed confidence boost as they travel again this weekend for a tricky engagement with third-placed North Shore.

Manurewa 0, Tauranga City 2 (Jay Silcock 40' Riley Bidois 54')
