Fans and supporters of Tauranga Boys' College's First XV can now get their fix of the team's action live online.

The school along with its partners in the central North Island Super 8 competition has signed up with live streaming app sidelineapp.com to provide coverage of a number of the teams' matches for the remainder of the season.

Saturday's Super 8 away clash with Napier Boys High School was the first offering.

Further matches through July and August will also be available, culminating with their home season finale against old rivals Rotorua Boys High on August 11.

Principal Robert Mangan says it's a great opportunity for parents, family and old boys to keep in touch with what the first XV are doing.

'There's a lot of interest out there in the community, but also people are busy so it gives them the opportunity to watch the game as it's happening.”

He also says he wants live streaming to go further than just rugby.

'We'd like it to spread, absolutely. We'd be very keen to see basketball, football and hockey to be screened.”

There's also scope for summer sports such as cricket to be covered, he says.

'Obviously at this stage rugby generates the biggest audience but we're keen to incorporate other sports into it as well.”

Robert also sees it as an opportunity to grow media studies expertise within the college. Senior boys are commentating on matches, and responsible for filming as well as editing together highlights packages.

For a charge of $5 per match supporters can enjoy the games by clicking on https://www.sidelineapp.com/tauranga-boys-college
