Papamoa notched their third win in a row in all competitions with an emphatic 5-0 win over Tokoroa on Saturday.

Promising teenager Liam Molloy stole the show with a late two-goal cameo from the substitutes bench, adding to an earlier strike from Alex Wilson and a first-half brace from skipper Campbell Higgins.

The result heaped pressure on West Hamilton United, who now lead the Waibop Premiership table by just a single point ahead of their trip to the Bay of Plenty on Saturday.

Under clear blue skies and in near perfect conditions at Strathmore Park, Papamoa gained a foothold in the fixture in the 14th minute when Higgins met an Andrew Cooper cross to break the deadlock.

And despite the best efforts of a difficult playing surface, the visitors found themselves 2-0 up when Higgins notched his second from a Fawwaz Ali corner just before the break.

If the first-half had been somewhat laboured, with Tokoroa proving stubborn opponents at times, the second period was the polar-opposite.

Papamoa dominated proceedings, with Cole Peverley taking control in the middle third and Higgins and Dean Styles combining well down the left-hand side to inspire a solid display of controlled possession.

Wilson put the tie beyond any doubt when he slotted home a third, before 15-year-old Molloy grabbed the headlines after replacing Mitchell Hales, with two goals in the final five minutes.

First-team coach Andy Birchenough said: 'Young Liam looked completely at home, and was not physically intimidated at all.

'He took his two goals extremely well – particularly his second, which was a sweetly-taken volley from just inside the area.

'It was also great to see Mathew De Bono take his chance for the full 90 minutes. He put in a solid, workmanlike performance and paced himself well.

'It's also another clean-sheet for Ryan (Foord), but I thought our captain Campbell (Higgins) was the well-deserved man of the match.”

Papamoa's next fixture is the top-of-the-table clash against West Hamilton United at Gordon Spratt Reserve, On Saturday, June 16 (2.45pm kick-off).

Papamoa FC (3-4-3): Ryan Foord; Campbell Higgins (captain), James Davies, Mathew De Bono; Cole Peverley, Fawwaz Ali, Alex Wilson, Dean Styles; Mitchell Hales, Andrew Cooper, Strauss Boom. Substitutes: Liam Molly, Phillip Fletcher, Dave Molloy, Isaac Bright, Harris Enlin (GK).
