State Highway 29 between Hopkins Road and Hinuera Road has reopened after a serious crash put seven people in hospital this morning.
The accident – which St John says involved five vehicles – occurred at around 9am at the intersection of State Highway 29 and Hopkins Road, near Hinuera.
A St John spokesperson says five ambulances and two sierra units (first responders) attended the accident.
He says nine people were injured, with two of them being treated at the scene. The remaining seven were all transported to Waikato Hospital.
One patient was flown by rescue helicopter in a serious condition, while another patient who was also in a serious condition was transported by road.
Five other patients with minor to moderate injuries were also transported by road to Waikato Hospital.
The road was closed for around two hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigated. It reopened at around 12.20pm.

Another crash.... more sad outcomes.Too many unskilled drivers on our roads.We need regular driver testing by qualified and properly skilled testers. No pass No drive.Not fair you say? Well too bad. Our roads are crowded with unskilled fathers, mothers, sons, daughters who are driving vehicles they are incapable of controlling correctly.You cant argue with the facts!!People behind the wheel are causing crashes!
