Police pursue slow driver

A pursuit in Cameron Road this afternoon was called off because of traffic volumes. File photo.

Police were involved in an unusual chase along Cameron Road this afternoon.

A fleeing driver who failed to stop for police lights and sirens led a pursuit around Gate Pa streets – at about 40km/h.

A police spokeswoman says the locations given for the police pursuit included Anzac Road, 19th Avenue, Botanical Road and 21st Avenue, before the pursuit was called off in Cameron Road – because of the heavy volume of traffic in the area.

The incident took place over about 15 minutes after 3.40pm.

'The driver is known to police, so we will be making further inquiries,” says the spokesperson.

She had no knowledge of it being a particularly slow pursuit.

'If there is heavy traffic volume it is not going to be fast anyway.”

So many questions...

....but the most obvious one is (quote Police spokesperson) "if there is heavy traffic volume it is not going to be fast anyway"..must mean that we are happy for drivers who perhaps have impediments (ie: cannot actually see or hear..!!) to drive at 40km and hit a vehicle, pedestrian or pram as long as they are going under the speed limit?...this surely is Keystone Cops stuff...
