Another late cyclone has formed outside of the official cyclone season and is posing no threat to New Zealand, say weather forecasters.
Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Ella was yesterday, after the official cyclone season ended on April 30.
'Ella is not forecast to grow into a big storm like Donna (at least not based on any data from yesterday), but Ella may deliver very heavy rains to Fiji and the risk of flooding,” says WeatherWatch.co.nz
'Data is conflicted about Ella's future but most forecasts at the moment suggest Ella will be a short lived cyclone and will track mainly around Fiji. Even if not a cyclone Ella may still continue to send drenching rains into Fiji.”
As of last night, Ella is near Samoa and may brush the nation briefly before tracking closer in to Fiji.
'There is no threat to New Zealand from Cyclone Ella.”
