A moderate North Island quake has been reported close to the Bay of Plenty community of Te Kaha.

Over 300 people have reported feeling the 4.7 magnitude aftershock after it struck at around 6:19pm.

According to GeoNet, it hit at a depth of 31km.

The location is listed as 10km south-west of Te Kaha.
