Police are investigating the cause of a crash between two vehicles on Tamatea Arikinui Dr (SH2) near Cambridge Rd this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the scene at 4pm and one person had to be cut from the car. It is understood one of the vehicles may have left the scene and is being sought by police.

NZTA Highway Information has identified the crash as SH2, 200m before the Cambridge Rd intersection in the westbound lane.

Traffic was backed up for some distance as fire and ambulance crews worked to remove a person from one of the cars.
