Rallycross revs up the action

Hey adrenalin junkies, if you're looking for a fix then there is still time to head down to ASB Stadium Baypark for a bit of rally action.

The eventhas three divisions – rallycross, off-road, and Polaris (off-road racer) – offering a NZ Champ title in each, along with $30,000 prize money.

It'sbased on global rallycross fixtures popular in Europe and the United States, where spectators enjoy all of the action from the comfort of arena seats.

Up to 60 drivers are taking part in the event on a combination of surfaces including clay, ashphalt and gravel.

As result, spectators will see cars flying through jumps, tight corners, and making high-speed slides. Plus, there will be pit walks, opportunities to meet the drivers.

SunLive photographer Cameron Avery headed down there to capture some of the action.

It's a shame

that it didn't get more spectators. I was there today and the stadium must have been 98% empty at least. Must be disappointing for the sponsors and promoters. If we don't go along to support events like this they won't come back.
