A motorist had to be freed from their vehicle after their car rolled on State Highway 2 just west of Waihi this morning.

NZ Fire Service northern communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson says emergency services were dispatched to the scene after the car rolled at the intersection of SH2 and Rifle Range Road at about 7.45am.

'When crews arrived there was a person trapped and we have since extricated the person from the vehicle.

'There was only one person in the car and there were no other vehicles involved that we are aware of.”

Daniel says the driver suffered minor injuries.

The NZ Transport Agency is warning motorists to expect delays as one lane is currently blocked.
