UPDATED: Crash closes state highway

UPDATED – 10.20am: State Highway Two is now closed and diversions are in place after a truck struck a median barrier this morning.

It's been reported the driver of the truck suffered serious injuries after hitting the barrier 500m south of the roundabout where SH2 and SH25/Kopu Road meet shortly before 9.30am.

Emergency services are currently at the scene and motorists are being asked to avoid the area as delays are likely.

Fairfax also reports that a car has hit a fence on SH27 just south of this morning's truck crash. Northbound traffic is now being diverted down Coxhead Road.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays on SH2 and SH27 through Hauraki to Coromandel.

Today's wet and slippery conditions have prompted police to ask motorists to take care on the roads, especially when travelling through the Karangahake Gorge between Paeroa and Waihi.

SunLive will update this story once more information comes to hand.
