SunLive had an exclusive meeting today with Tauranga Police's newest recruit – nine-week-old Ezra.
Ezra will stay in Constable Blair Robertson's care until he is ready to enter the Police Dog Training Centre in Trentham, Wellington.

Tauranga's senior constable and dog handler Kayne Cording says Ezra will stay with Blair until he is eight-to-nine months old.
The dog will then be allocated to a dog handler who will take him on a course for formal training.
Ezra is the grandson of Yoda, one of the five current police dogs in Tauranga.
Ezra's father is 2015's National Police Patrol Dog champion Isaac, who works in Whakatane.

Constable Blair Robertson will be looking after Ezra.

What a good looking addition to the Force. With a dad like his, he should go far. Const Blair, call me if you need a hand looking after him! And a very happy Christmas and New Year to all the boys and girls in blue, you do a great job.
He probably does a better job

Perhaps this pup should be put in charge of the Kaimai speed limit signs. Random chance would do a better job given that reduced speed limits have apparently been showing on perfectly dry roads and clear conditions in some instances.
