A motorist is in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital after a logging truck and car collided on State Highway 25 between Whiritoa and Whangamata yesterday.

The driver received serious arm injuries and was flown to Waikato Hospital while a passenger, a 20-year-old Whitianga man, was flown to Tauranga Hospital by the Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter.

The incident happen about 4.30pm when the car and truck crashed on a bend causing the truck to overturn and lose its load. The truck driver was uninjured in the crash.

A section of SH 25 in the Coromandel was closed near Whiritoa between Parakiwai Quarry Rd and Gladstone Rd.
