Eastern Link gets local backing

The Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL) is Bay of Plenty's largest roading project, it has been operating since August. SunLive talked with Te Puke residents to see how the project has impacted on the Western Bay of Plenty settlement.

It cost $455 millions, spans 21km, has four lanes, seven bridges, the country's largest rounabout and is one of seven roads of national significance.

Part of the reason for the project was to lower the amount of heavy traffic travelling through the main street of Te Puke.

So four months on has it done it's job? We talk to some of the residents to see what they think.

Government has $455m going on to $560m debt out of it, I guess that has been achieved as planned.

Great investment

Sorry to say Jaffa, all roading improvements cost a lot of money and this one is one of the best I have seen in this area to date. It is a pleasure to use, saves time and has been done to a high standard. It was also finished early and therefore is a credit to the builders and council alike. Roll on the Welcome bay improvements as well.

The Cycle way is great too, keeps our families safe and alot of people enjoy it, will be even better when more cyclways are joined together. Town seems much better with less people speeding through town because they are trying to overtake trucks and slower drivers
