No injuries in Turret Rd crash

Dazed and confused are the words used to describe the driver who rolled a car on Turret Road yesterday morning.

No one was injured in the crash which saw a vehicle hit a parked van at the bottom of 15th Avenue/Turret Road at 9.20am.

'Basically, a vehicle came around the bend, drifted wide and struck a parked vehicle,” says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

'The car has then rolled. There were no injuries in relation to the incident and enquiries are continuing.”

Truck driver Timmy Hyrons was one of the first people on the scene.

He says the driver of the vehicle must not have been paying attention as he came around the corner.

'When he hit the van, he hit the brakes which caused him to roll,” says Timmy. 'He wasn't really paying attention.

'I just made sure he was alright and got him out of the car in case something happened.”

Timmy says the driver seemed dazed and confused when he got out of the vehicle.

'Maybe, possibly, a bit more than that,” he admits. 'I was a bit worried about the situation.”

Another witnesses at the scene says the driver attempted to right the vehicle, but when that failed, he jumped on top of the car.

A reporter at the scene says the driver was taken away by police in handcuffs.

A tow truck was called to remove the car from the road, while the van hit by the car had to have one of its rear tyres changed.

"Must have been not paying attention." How many times do we hear this. Maybe a bit too much speed around the bend too. These people who have accidents when it is believed they aren't paying attention should be all made to attend special classes on how to pay attention and, if they don't turn up for the classes, suspend their driver's licence.
