SunLive took to the streets of Tauranga on Friday lunchtime to ask what the locals thought about parents taking their children out of school during term time.
The question arose after Auckland Primary Principals' Association president Frances Nelson insisted that any unsanctioned absence from school was illegal.

School principals from the region said this week that they deal with requests for term-time holidays on a case-by-case basis, with one head teacher calling Nelson's comments ‘pedantic'.
But most commenters on our Facebook page have been critical of Nelson's statement, so we hit the city's central business district to see what the general consensus is.

Taking a child out of school to go on a cruise to other places must benefit the child by learning about other cultures. Going to other countries and seeing must be better than reading from text books.

So if the child benefits from time out of term then I don't see why not.
