Fraser Street works delayed

The Fraser Street works are delayed with Tuesday's heavy rain preventing prompt drying of the new road surface.

NZ Transport Agency communications advisor Philippa Ross-James says the road closure date is now extended to Sunday, January 23, with Fraser Street hopefully ready to reopen on the following Monday.

This closure extension for Fraser Street, between 14th Avenue and 16th Avenue, is to allow the surface to dry out before laying the final asphalt layer and road markings.

Philippa says the new traffic lights will be commissioned and tested before the intersection is fully opened.

One lane in each direction on 15th Avenue remains open, but delays are likely.

Detours are in place with motorists encouraged to follow the detours or use alternative routes.

The NZ Transport Agency is advising road users to take extra care at the new intersection layout and would like to thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the works.
