Tauranga based Artists Berys Suridge and Elizabeth Cross both began painting 5 years ago after retiring from their business commitments.

Both Berys and Elizabeth work predominantly in acrylics and enjoy experimenting with various mediums and new techniques.

They both attend weekly art classes with Sue Dent and have also taken part in numerous workshops aiming to extend their skills and knowledge in painting and art generally.

They are both members of the Tauranga Society of Artists and Elizabeth is also a member of the Papamoa Group.

Berys works from home in Te Puna and currently enjoys painting landscapes, seascapes and some still life and is experimenting with different styles of painting. She enjoys nature and the beautiful surrounding local areas and puts her camera to good use for subject matter and a wide range of topics.

Berys's work in this exhibition has been inspired predominantly by walking around the local areas, which include the Karangahake Gorge, Dickies Flat, Waihi Beach and Whiritoa.

Elizabeth also works from home experimenting with a variety of styles from still life to abstract and mixed media.

At the moment she is enjoying exploring her personal journey of discovery and reward through creative processes which has inspired her work for the Berys and Elizabeth joint exhibition.

Elizabeth's work has been inspired by everyday activities including walking around the Mount and taking photos of anything she thinks would look great on canvas.

Berys and Elizabeth have been invited to have a joint exhibition by the Artmarket in Waihi.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 20th October and will continue on until Friday 2nd November 2012.

The Waihi Exhibition, called 'As We See It' has a variety of both artists' works.

They will be in attendance over Labour Weekend and periodically until closing day.

During Labour Weekend (Friday to Monday) both Berys and Elizabeth have several paintings on show at the 'Waikino Art Exhibition' at the Waikino Victoria Hall.

Berys and Elizabeth have successfully exhibited at local exhibitions, including the Tauranga Society of Artists Supreme Exhibition at Baycourt and the seasonal exhibition, which is held at the Bridge Club in Matua as well as the Waikino Exhibition.

They both have artworks in private collections throughout New Zealand and in Australia, the Pacific Islands and in Great Britain.

They have also undertaken commissions on a regular basis.
