When she's in Tauranga next Saturday, Rose Matafeo will definitely be at the head of the queue at Copenhagen Cones ordering a delicious Danish treat.
It's one of her favourite memories of Mount Maunganui. 'It's always a waffle cone, chocolate or strawberry ice-cream, and whipped cream, nuts and chocolate sauce,” says the 23-year-old comedian.

'The whole shebang. Go hard or go home.”
The ice-cream, hot pools, walks around the Mount and snapping pictures at Camel Rock are some of the memories made whilst pitching a tent at the campgrounds at the base of Mauao with her family as a youngster.
But this time around, she'll be here on a comedy tour with four other comedians when the 2degrees Comedy Convoy comes to town.
As part of the 2015 New Zealand International Comedy Festival, Rose, Steve Wrigley, Justin Hamilton, Nish Kumar and Guy Montgomery are touring 10 hotspots countrywide from May 12-23.
The funny five will be at Baycourt Theatre on May 16 and Rose is more than looking forward to it.
'I'm excited to bring some of the international acts to see our beautiful country, including Tauranga,” says Rose. 'I just want to act as tour guide to my friends who haven't been here before.”
Copenhagen Cones is unquestionably on the list of must-sees.
Rose started comedy at age 15 when she signed up for a school holidays programme called Class Comedians. 'I did it and it didn't go terribly,” says Rose, who continued in the industry from there.
She doesn't know why comedy tickled her fancy. 'It was kind of an extracurricular activity and I've always been one to do too much and not do any of it that well,” she adds.
It scares her to think comedy might not last forever because if she wasn't a comedian, Rose doesn't know what she'd do.
'Nothing that would require too much smarts, because I'm not cut out for that,” she says. 'All I'm saying is, I'm not going to become an accountant.”
Despite not speaking highly of herself, Rose is fooling nobody.
She won best newcomer at the 2010 NZ International Comedy Festival, a Billy T Award – which recognises the potential of upcoming NZ comedians – and has also starred in TV3's Jono and Ben, as well as comedy gameshow 7 Days.
Dark undertones, self-deprecating and silly is how Rose describes her comedy. So what makes good stand-up comedy in her eyes?
'Just be yourself,” says Rose. 'Being true to yourself is very important. Don't do comedy that you don't find funny.”
Her most embarrassing moment in comedy was when she recently walked off stage during a gig, forgetting about ‘the really big drop' and clipped her ankle on a scaffolding pole. Rose now has a sprained ankle for her efforts.
'It was horrific for me, but all the audience saw was me go ‘Haha, thank you goodnight'.
Let's hope she doesn't fall off the stage at Baycourt on May 16 for the 2degrees Comedy Convoy. The show starts at 8pm, and tickets, which cost $45, are available at: www.ticketek.co.nz
SunLive has a double pass to give away to a lucky reader who can name the five comedians in the 2degrees Comedy Convoy line-up.
