A travelling tribe of international musicians will be going mad, in the good way, at the Mauao Performing Arts Centre on Saturday night.
Pulling into town for a special one-off performance is the Mad Hallelujah Tribe - a wild and joyful musical family made up of seven talented songwriters, artists and multi-instrumentalists.

The tribe consists of Daniel C on guitar, vocals and trombone, Makete on hang drum, acoustic guitar, ukulele and vocals, Henry Shanks on hang drum, percussion and didgeridoo, Tomé Lou on ukulele, vocals, acoustic guitar and spoken word, Sybie on angelic vocals, Vojta on violin, and Alice Sea on angelic vocals, flutes, percussion and didgeridoo. Phew!
'Our live sets feature a strong rhythmic pulse, the mystical sounds of the hand pan (Hang drum), beautiful vocal harmonies, epic instrumental solos and lyrics straight from the heart,” says the tribe.
These elements are then woven together with a 'seamless integration of structure and improvisation”.
Individually, each member possesses a treasure trove of skill which have been honed over years as street musicians, performance artists, global nomads, jam leaders and sound healers.
But with their powers combined, the music is nothing short of magic and creates a sound the tribe describes as 'Glory Grooves and Soul Medicine”.
Mad Hallelujah Tribe, featuring Foxtale Feather, Sybie & Friends and MC Medicinal perform at the Mauao Performing Arts Centre on Saturday night, from 7pm. Tickets are available on the door for $10.
