Motorists are being warned of delays up to 20 minutes on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Range, with road works in full swing.
The NZ Transport Agency says stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions are in place to allow contractors to widen and rehabilitate an 1100m section of the highway near Soldiers Road.
Delays are expected on State Highway 29 near Soldiers Road.
The work is expected to be complete by mid-May after contractors made a start in late March.
Traffic levels on Thursday afternoon were higher than expected, forcing the NZTA to stop work to reduce congestion.
NZTA says work will continue today outside peak times, from 9am-4pm, to lessen the effect on motorists.
However, travellers should plan for delays and consider using alternative routes.
NZTA apologises for any inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience and understanding while work is carried out.

Alternative routes?

Tauranga people work in the Waikato, Waikato people work in the Tauranga area. Now exactly what "alternate" routes are there to take, perhaps via Waihi/Paeroa or Rotorua, at + 1.5-2.0 hours extra drive time? I think sitting in a traffic cue is a better idea,
Wishful thinking

Any chance of the work being done at night when there really is reduced traffic flow?
Why
