Motorists are being reminded State Highway 2 through Karangahake Gorge will be closed to all traffic on Thursday night due to resurfacing near the Karangahake Reserve.
SH2 will be closed from 9pm on Thursday. Photo: file.
The road will be closed from 9pm on April 9 until 5.30pm on Friday.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says the closure is to allow contractors to resurface a narrow 200m section of the gorge road between Paeroa and Waihi, near the Karangahake Reserve.
People wishing to travel between Waihi and Paeroa can use an alternative route via SH25/25A, which will add about one hour and 15 minutes to the trip.
Motorists travelling between Auckland to Tauranga are advised to use SH29 over the Kaimai Range.
With Easter holidays ending tomorrow morning, NZTA is advising motorists to consider avoiding travel during the times of heaviest congestion which are listed below.
SH2 Waihi between Paeroa and Katikati – westbound
Heavy traffic between 9.30am to 6pm, heaviest between 10am and 3pm.
SH3 Te Kuiti between Otorohanga and 8 Mile Junction SH 3/ SH4
Heavy Northbound traffic 11am-4pm.
