Written by Helen Moulder, Sir Jon Trimmer and Sue Ridder, this poignant and funny dance‐drama tells the story of Sylvia; a lonely woman obsessed with her favourite dancer Alexander Karpovsky.

For years Sylvia (Helen) travelled the world and its greatest ballet theatres but now lives alone in her house filled with photographs of Alexander Karpovsky (Sir Jon).

Then one day the great dancer mysteriously appears to teach the stumbling Sylvia to dance and give her a new lease on life

Helen says the pair have been wanting to tour the play again for some time and now Sir Jon's schedule with the Royal New Zealand Ballet has allowed them to do so.

'I love working with Jon. He has the most magical stage presence and just being there with him is a wonderful experience.

'This will probably be the last time we tour with this piece so it is a sort of farewell tour taking in the whole country, starting in Nelson, my home town, and going to 20 places.”

Helen adds: 'I will be very sad when it is over as creating this show was a very special experience.”

Although this is the first time that Meeting Karpovsky will be performed in Tauranga, both Helen and Sir Jon are familiar faces to Bay audiences.

Helen has performed in various plays with the Tauranga Arts Festival, while Sir John has graced the Baycourt stage many times with the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Following the one-off performance audience members will also have the chance to stay on after the show for an informal question and answer session with Helen and Sir Jon stars.

Meeting Karpovsky was originally produced in 2002 and toured New Zealand during 2003 and 2004. The show won Listener Best Play in 2002 and Chapman Tripp Actress of the Year in 2003.

It returned to Welington and other North Island centres during 2012, and now returns to tour the whole country with the Arts On Tour NZ.

The show also features musical works by Tchaikovsky, Weber, Stravinsky, Adam and Bach.

Meeting Karpovsky featuring Helen Moulder and Sir Jon Trimmer will be onstage for one night only at the Baycourt X Space in Tauranga on Tuesday, May 26, from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost $28 for Adults, $26 for Seniors, $24 for Friends of Baycourt, and $15 for Students. Service fees and charges will apply.
