Major growth for cocktail maker

Kiwi beverages export company VnC is on track to quadruple its exports through the Port of Tauranga by 2015.

The business' growth is also marked by the boosting of its local workforce by more than 60 per cent to 50 staff.

VnC products are premade cocktails made with natural ingredients sold in 700ml bottles.

These announcements were made on Friday afternoon to a group of about 50 people attending the official opening of the company's global manufacturing centre at the old Pinto Juice plant by Tauranga MP Simon Bridges.

'We've chosen Tauranga for our global manufacturing centre because it's a dynamic and fast-growing part of New Zealand, with a skilled workforce and serviced by the country's number one port,” says executive chairman of VnC Andrew Walker.

'Already, we have 31 people employed here in Tauranga and we plan to boost that by more than 60 per cent to 50 within three years.”

In addition to the Tauranga workforce, VnC employs 13 other staff in New Zealand and 25 across the world. Both numbers are forecast to grow.

VnC, the brain child of serial entrepreneur Shane McKillen, was founded in 2007 and is focused predominantly on the export market, with about 95 per cent of its production shipped offshore to customers in 25 countries.

From export volumes of under 30,000 cases in 2009/10, exports are forecast to be up 600 per cent to over 180,000 cases in 2010/11. Even more significantly, forward sales of 250,000 cases for 2011/12 are already secured to China and the UK alone. Its millionth bottle will be exported in the next 60 days.

This exponential growth in sales means the company's business through the Port of Tauranga will quadruple by 2015.

Speaking at the official opening to the Bay of Plenty's top business and community leaders, Andrew says the company planned to become a major player in the Bay of Plenty business community.

'We're committed to New Zealand because it is home and because it provides us with a strong domestic market – and it is vital to have a company's manufacturing centre based within a strong domestic market,” he said.

'Within New Zealand, we're committed to Tauranga because our analysis indicates that this is the best place in New Zealand from which to build an export business.”

He says VnC competes with high-quality wines, using premium ingredients and all-natural juices in its products, with no artificial flavourings or preservatives.

'Our customers appreciate the mixture of convenience and quality evident in our product and demand the highest quality all natural ingredients.”
