UPDATED: Car v motorbike: Maunganui Rd

UPDATED 6.15pm: Police have confirmed the accident involving a car and a motorcycle occurred outside of Mount Maunganui College on Maunganui Rd.

They have also now confirmed the driver of the car is uninjured but the motorcycle rider suffered slight injuries in the crash that took place at about 5.15pm.

Senior sergeant Carl Purcell says traffic was now flowing freely along Maunganui Rd and he thanked motorists for their patience.

The motorcycle rider was treated at the scene by ambulance staff, but further details were unavailable at the time.

Emergency services are currently on their way to the scene of an accident involving a car and a motorcycle somewhere near the intersection of Maunganui and Hull roads.

Ambulance have been requested to the scene and there are reports that more than one person has been injured in the crash that took place at about 5.15pm.

Few details are available at present, including the status of the injured motorists.

Motorists are faced with the possibilities of delays along Maunganui Rd this evening and it is recommended they either avoid the area or delay travel if and where possible.
