Flood: digger breaks main

Workmen with a digger are responsible for breaking a water main in 15th Avenue near the Fraser Street intersection mid morning Thursday.

Water was lapping the doorway of the superette at the intersection before the water supply was able to be turned off.

The flooding was expected to subside through the new storm water system installed overnight Wednesday as part of the intersection upgrade.

Traffic was delayed with 15th Avenue down to one southbound lane and the left turn lane from Fraser Street under water.

Tauranga City Council spokesperson Marcel Currin says repairs are underway and houses in the vicinity can expect low water pressure until mid-afternoon.
