U16 to open grade surf lifesavers from the Mount, Papamoa, Omanu, Waihi and Whakatane surf clubs – as well as Taranaki, Wellington, Gisborne, Auckland – competed on Saturday and Sunday at Papamoa Surf Club for the top spot in the Bay of Plenty Senior Championships.
The competition draws upon top surf lifesavers, testing their skills to determine the 2015 BOP champions in their respective disciplines.
Surf Lifesaving New Zealand Eastern Region sport manager Scott Bicknell says the event went really well, with the Mount team tallying up 575 points across the two-day event.

'Mount's really dominant. They have a very strong team here so they've done exceptionally well.”
This weekend's championships will give competitors an insight to what will be available at the 2015 State NZ Championships and the BP Rescue NZ Championships.
'This is two weeks out from nationals so this is a very good indicator of how they're going to perform when they go to nationals,” says Scott. 'This is a good hit out for them.”
Scott wishes to thank Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club for hosting the event.
