Papamoa mother of two Faith Van Duin is getting her chance to compete on an international scale again with an MMA fight scheduled in America in the next couple of months.
Faith is the first New Zealand woman signed to Invicta – the largest women's MMA promotion in the world.
The details of Faith's fight are still being ironed out.
She has been training in mixed martial arts for three years and is on a journey to be world champion.
'After three years of training and fighting I am now number three in the world in my division.
'My next fight is looking to be March/April and I'm so proud to be representing my home and culture.”
Faith was due to fight in a featherweight bout against Canadian Charmaine Tweet at the end of last year, but the fight was pulled from the Invicta FC 10 card due to medical concerns.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation pulled the fight ahead of the December 5 scheduling.
Details of Faith's new fight are still being worked out but Faith says she will be fighting in America sometime in March or April.
'As women's MMA is a young sport in New Zealand, it's difficult for me to get sponsorship to help cover the cost of training and traveling internationally with my team of trainers, so I am constantly fund raising to cover these costs.”
To help with the costs needed to get her to America, Faith has set up a Give a Little fundraising page.
'If you're inspired or just want to help support my dream of bringing the Invicta FC and eventually UFC title back home to Aotearoa, please donate.
'I started training three years again to show my daughters that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.”
In this time, Faith has learnt Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and Judo and says she had never trained a day in her life before her journey.
'I was overweight and just stuck and new I needed to show my daughters there was more to life then what I was doing.”
